Syria: UN Security Council condemns widespread ethnic violence
The United Nations Security Council has issued a statement denouncing the widespread violence in Syria’s coastal region, The New Arab reported on March 14th. The Council urges the country’s interim authorities to ensure the protection of all citizens.
Russia and the U.S. drafted the statement and will formally adopt it on March 14th. The statement comes after the 15-member council met behind closed doors on March 10th.
Syria struggled to contain some of the deadliest violence in 13 years of civil war, pitting loyalists of deposed president Bashar al-Assad against the country’s new rulers.
