Lebanon eager for new deal with IMF to support economy

Lebanon’s finance minister Yassine Jaber said on March 12th there would be a fresh agreement between his country and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a statement by the finance military announced, The New Arab reported.
The head of the IMF, Ernesto Ramirez Rigo, has urged Lebanon to implement a financial reform plan. It is hoped that the country will as a result, secure loans from the IMF.
Lebanese president, Joseph Aoun, has reassured the IMF of his commitment to proceed with the reforms as he is under no illusion of his country’s poor financial situation.
The agreement intends to ease pressures on the country’s wounded economy, hit hard since its 2019 financial system collapse and the recent conflict with Israel.
