The Syrian presidency has announced that a Kurdish-led militia alliance controlling north-eastern Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces, has signed an agreement to integrate all military and civilian institutions into the Syrian state, as reported by the BBC on March 11th.

The agreement stipulates a complete cessation of hostilities and requires the US-backed SDF to transfer control of border posts, the airport, and key oil and gas fields to the Syrian government.

Notably, the deal also includes the official recognition of the Kurdish minority as “an integral part of the Syrian state”, guaranteeing them political representation and participation, as is the right of all Syrians.
