Anti-LGBT bill reintroduced by MP’s in Ghana

Ten Ghanaian MP’s have resubmitted a bill that would enforce some of the strictest constraints on LGBT rights in Africa, the BBC reported on March 3rd.
The bill stipulates a jail term of three years for people who identify as gay and five to ten years for advocates or promoters.
The legislation was passed by parliament in 2024, but the former President Nana Akufo-Addo refused to sign it into law before leaving office during January.
It has been extensively criticised by local and global human rights groups, with some referring to it as Draconian. Gay sex is currently punishable by a prison sentence of up to three years in Ghana.
