Abbas confirms support for Egypt’s reconstruction plan for Gaza
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed Egypt’s plan to rebuild Gaza without uprooting Palestinians, the Middle East Monitor via Reuters reported on March 5th.
He also conveyed that he is ready to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in 2026, should the circumstances be appropriate.
Abbas mentioned that the required plans have been established to give basic services for when the Palestinian people go back to their homes in Gaza, in order to prepare for the reconstruction process.
Abbas stressed that solidifying the ceasefire is a priority, but that other matters that take priority include giving humanitarian aid, as well as the full withdrawal of Israel’s occupation forces.
