Report says 3% of Yemenis get salaries in Houthi-controlled areas

Just 3% of people living in Yemen’s Houthi-controlled areas rely on their monthly salaries because of a halt in civil servant payments, while 54% rely on casual labor and 18% on food aid, recent data from the UN has revealed.
The Food and Agriculture Organization spoke of a rise in flour costs just before the holy month of Ramadan following the Houthis ban on wheat flour imports, whilst ports controlled by the militia are under threat from Israel’s strikes, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.
In its Yemen Market and Trade Bulletin of January 2025, the FAO said that in spite of cost controls in Houthi-controlled areas, the average lowest Food Basket (MFB) price in US dollar is a bit more there. Residents also have less power over purchasing, in comparison to people in areas ruled by legitimate government control.
