Israel has officially requested to keep its troops in a minimum of five military posts in the south of Lebanon until February 28th, a Lebanese official and a foreign diplomat told Reuters, The New Arab reported on February 12th.

The request comes after a ceasefire agreement brokered during November between Hezbollah and Israel, which had mandated an Israeli withdrawal from the south of Lebanon by the date of January 26th.

Although the deadline had already been extended to February 18th, Israel is now looking for a further extension through the committee overseeing the ceasefire, according to the sources.
