Russia’s Special Representative for the Middle East has affirmed Moscow’s strong backing of Egypt and Jordan in their rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians, the Middle East Monitor reported on February 5th.

The Russian support came after US President Donald Trump’s insistence that Egypt and Jordan would take in displaced Palestinians, a stance which was vehemently opposed by the region.

Mikhail Bogdanov Leonidovich emphasised that peace and stability in the region will remain unattainable as long as Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories persists.

He also reiterated that the Arab Peace Initiative serves as a fair and balanced framework for achieving a lasting and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian issue.

With extensive experience in Arab affairs, Leonidovich has previously been ambassador of the Russian Federation to Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, and the Arab League.

His remarks came during a meeting with Mohamed Bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, who is currently visiting Russia.

The special representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Al-Yamahi on his recent election, highlighting that this visit marks the first visit of a delegation from the Arab Parliament at this level.

He also addressed the situation in the Middle East, emphasising that internal national consensus is the key foundation for establishing lasting and sustainable solutions to the crises affecting some Arab nations.

He affirmed Russia’s support for such consensus at all levels.

Al-Yamahi expressed the Arab Parliament’s commitment to strengthening Arab-Russian relations, which have now reached the level of a strategic partnership across multiple sectors.

He also voiced support for the outcomes of the Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum between the Arab League and the Russian Federation. Furthermore, he welcomed Putin’s initiative which prepares for the first Arab-Russian summit at the level of heads of state, calling it a major step forward in advancing Arab-Russian relations.
