US President Donald Trump’s suggestion to resettle Gaza’s population would just be temporary, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the BBC reported on February 6th.

This follows Trump’s proposal that the US could “take over” Gaza to resettle roughly two million Palestinians who live there, a suggestion which has been been criticized by the UN, Arab leaders as well as human rights groups.

White House spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, elucidated Trump’s comments, explaining that the US did not intend to to put “boots on the ground” within the territory.

During a Guatemala trip, Rubio said Trump’s suggestion was not “hostile” but a “generous move,” revealing “the willingness of the United States to become responsible for the reconstruction of that area”.
