The office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing” in the West Bank after Israeli attacks resulted in the death of 70 Palestinians including 10 children in the occupied territory this year, The National reported on February 3rd.

Israel carried out an offensive on the West Bank two weeks ago. The operation, known as “Iron Wall,” imposed a severe siege on the West Bank’s northern cities, leading to the deterioration of the economy and strict restriction on movement.

So far, 29 Palestinians have been killed as a result of the Israeli offensive and entire neighbourhoods have been destroyed, according to a spokesman for Abbas.

“We call on the American administration to intervene before it is too late to stop the ongoing Israeli attack on our people and land, which will lead to an uncontrollable expulsion and escalation,” spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement.

Israeli forces have blown up 20 buildings in a Jenin refugee camp on February 2nd. The mayor of the city said that half of the nearly abandoned refugee camp is without water.

The assault on the West Bank comes as Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in the US on February 3rd to meet US President Donald Trump.

Some members of Netanyahu’s cabinet have used his trip to urge the US to help Israel in changing territorial realities in other areas with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich urged Netanyahu to use the meeting to “strengthen Israel’s grip and sovereignty” over the occupied West Bank.
