Unidentified attackers descended on cattle camps in a southeastern part of South Sudan, killing at least 35 people and leaving 46 with wounds, according to a community leader, The New Arab via Reuters reported on February 3rd.

Cattle raiding, which is associated with competition for limited resources, is one the primary triggers of ethnically-motivated conflicts in the country following a decades-long war.

The leader, Mayom Ateny, told Reuters on February 2nd: “On January 31st, the Dinka Bor cattle camps were attacked.” Ateny provided details of the deaths and injuries within the four camps subjected to attacks.
