US strike kills senior Al Qaeda-linked militant in Syria

A senior operative of an Al Qaeda-affiliated group in northwest Syria has been killed by a US airstrike, amid Washington’s drone and special forces campaign which is targeting militants within the region, The National reported on January 31st.

The strike caused the death of Muhammad Salah Al Za’bir on January 30th, US Central Command said, which is America’s military HQ in the Middle East. Al Za’bir was a leading member of the group, Hurras Al Din, which was created in 2018 in Syria.

For approximately a decade, the US has conducted a drone and special forces programme in Syria led by the CIA and Joint Special Operations Command.
