Israeli strike targets West Bank killing at least 10

An Israeli airstrike in the northern West Bank killed at least 10 people late on January 29th, Asharq Al-Awsat reported.
The strike, which targeted the rural village of Tamoun, marks an escalation in Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Palestinian militants in the occupied territory. The Israeli military said a warplane conducted the strike which targeted a Palestinian militant cell in the area.
Residents of Tamoun reported that the attack hit a house in a densely populated neighbourhood. The Palestinian Health Ministry warned that the death toll was expected to increase.
Israeli airstrikes in the West Bank were relatively uncommon before the October 7th 2023 attack. However, Israel argues that its increased raids are for countering a surge in Palestinian militant attacks, including shootings targeting Israelis.
Palestinians say that Israel’s military actions fuel resentment and make the cycle of violence last longer. This especially holds true, with regards to the ongoing raid in the Jenin refugee camp that has left at least 18 Palestinians dead.
Hamas issued a statement mourning the men killed in Tamoun but did not claim them as members.
