The US said it backed Israel’s decision to close the offices of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees in occupied East Jerusalem, The National reported on January 28th.

Israel said to the security council it would stop all contact with the UN Relief and Works Agency within two days and close the agencies offices in areas that it regards to be under its power. Israel has urged for UNRWA’s duties to be given to other agencies.

US deputy representative to the UN, Dorothy Shea, told the Security Council: “UNRWA is exaggerating the effects of the laws and suggesting that they will force the entire humanitarian response to halt is irresponsible and dangerous.”
