Following Israeli attacks, the Palestinian death toll in Jenin has reached 16 and left dozens of people with injuries as of January 26th, The New Arab reported.
Israeli forces have driven hundreds of Palestinians away from their Jenin homes as part of their large-scale military offensive on the area, as reported by The New Arab on January 24th.
As part of its operation, the Israeli military has demolished homes and expanded operations into the city, Reuters reported.
However, the Israeli military has denied claims that it is forcibly displacing Palestinians from their homes, and said it was “enabling any resident who chooses to exit from the area to do so via secure and organised routes with the protection of Israeli security forces.”
Israel’s intelligence service has said they are battling a “multi-front war”, as military vehicles and bulldozers razed buildings in the town of Qabatiya, north of Jenin, overnight and into the morning of January 24th. Drones and military helicopters were flying over Palestinian homes, urging alleged Palestinian fighters to surrender.
Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, the head of Israel’s military, said, “We need to be prepared to continue in the Jenin camp, which will bring it to a different place.”
Since the beginning of this year, Israel has killed at least 34 people in the occupied West Bank, including 6 children, the UN group OCHA said. OCHA has added that there has been a rise in Israeli settler violence, with at least 17 Palestinians wounded in the last week.
Hospitals in the West Bank have also been operating at just 70% capacity due to the ongoing Israeli military attacks and assault by settlers, which is putting patients at greater risk.
Arab nations have strongly condemned the Israeli military assault in Jenin, calling it a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”
