Syrian fighters affiliated with the new leaders of Syria have conducted 35 summary executions over three days, mainly of Bashar al-Assad-era officers, according to a war monitor, The Guardian via AFP reported on January 26th.

The authorities, which were brought in by rebel forces which ousted former president Assad in December, said they had conducted several arrests in the Western Homs area concerning “violations” which were not specified.

The official news agency, Sana, said the authorities on January 24th claimed that members of a “criminal group” were using a security sweep to carry out abuses against residents while also “posing as members of the security services.”
