The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel has been extended until February 18th and will be overseen by the US, the White House said on January 26th, according to The National via Reuters

The White House said in a statement: “The Government of Lebanon, the Government of Israel and the Government of the United States will also begin negotiations for the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023.”

Lasting 60 days, the ceasefire, arranged by the US and France was signed by Israel and Lebanon on November 27th after friction between Israeli troops and Hezbollah fighters developed into a full-blown war in 2024, killing thousands of people and causing hundreds of thousands to leave their homes.
