Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced the launch of the largest humanitarian aid convoy for Palestinians in Gaza on  January 26th, according to Anadolu Agency.

This move is part of the country’s efforts to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Madbouly said during a conference that the initiative was launched “in implementation of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directives and in response to the call of humanity to support our Palestinian brothers in Gaza,” according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The convoy is comprised of 305 trucks carrying over 4,200 tons of aid and 11 ambulances. The initiative is launched under the slogan “Together for Humanity.”

This development follows the implementation of a six-week ceasefire agreement for Gaza on January 19th. The agreement temporarily halted Israel’s offensive, which has killed over 47,300 Palestinians, primarily women and children, since October 7th 2023. The conflict has also injured over 111,400 individuals.

The three-phase ceasefire agreement includes a prisoner swap and aims to establish a permanent truce while facilitating the removal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Gaza remains in a dire humanitarian situation. The Israeli onslaught has left more than 11,000 people missing, while large-scale destruction has devastated infrastructure and claimed the lives of countless civilians, including the elderly, women, and children.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions during the conflict.
