The 60-day truce between Israel and Hezbollah is anticipated to be extended, according to UN and diplomatic sources, as reported by The National on January 24th.

The ceasefire is due to come to end on January 27th and although the prospect of extensive fighting is unlikely, a greater period of time is necessary to carry out the conditions of the deal, the sources said.

Hezbollah and Israel made an agreement in late November, following a year’s conflict that developed into a full-blown war in September 2024. The ceasefire specifies that Israeli troops must be removed from the south of Lebanon, Hezbollah will similarly withdraw its fighters and weapons from the area, in which Lebanese forces will then enter the area.
