Tel Aviv stabbing attack injures five Israelis

Five people were wounded in a stabbing attack on January 21st in Tel Aviv, according to Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom, the New Arab and agencies reported.

The police said a first-stage investigation “revealed that a terrorist armed with a knife stabbed three civilians on Nahalat Binyamin Street and one civilian on Gruzenberg Street”. The area, which is known for its restaurants and nightlife, was sealed off following the incident, with an AFP journalist saying the body of the attacker was visible on the street.

The attacker, identified as a 28-year-old foreign national, was killed, Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom reported.

Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv confirmed receiving three victims, including one in “a serious condition with a knife wound to the neck”, who was, as a result, taken into surgery.

Israeli media identified the attacker as Abdelaziz Kaddi, a Moroccan and US green card holder, based on identification found on his body. Interior Minister Moshe Arbel revealed that Kaddi had been questioned upon his arrival at Ben Gurion Airport and was ultimately allowed to enter the country.

Arbel said that he has asked the head of the Shin Bet internal security agency, Ronen Bar, “to investigate this serious incident and learn lessons as soon as possible.”

The Shin Bet reported that Kaddi underwent interrogation and “additional tests”. “It was decided that there was no information establishing grounds to prevent his entry into Israel for security reasons,” the agency said, adding that the matter would be further examined.

Hamas praised the attack, describing it as a “heroic stabbing operation” and claiming it reflected growing resistance to Israel.
