Israeli forces kill Palestinians behind West Bank bus attack

Israeli forces killed two Palestinians who were responsible for a deadly bus attack in the West Bank this month, Asharq Al-Awsat via The Associated Press reported on January 23rd.
The Israeli military reported on January 23rd that the two men had barricaded themselves inside a building in the village of Burqin, West Bank. They exchanged fire with Israeli troops before being killed overnight.
According to the army, one soldier sustained moderate injuries, The Associated Press reports.
The army identified the men, Mohammed Nazzal and Katiba al-Shalabi, as operatives with the Islamic Jihad group.
Hamas issued a statement claiming that the two men were part of its armed wing and commended the bus attack. Hamas and the smaller but more extreme, Islamic Jihad, are allies that occasionally conduct attacks together.
The bus attack on January 6th targeted Israelis, killing three people and injuring six others.
Israel seized the West Bank during the 1967 Mideast war. Palestinians view the territory as central to the establishment of their future state.
