Italy releases senior Libyan police officer following arrest

Italy has released a senior person from the judicial police of Libya, after the country arrested him on a warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over allegations of war crimes, an interior ministry source said on January 21st, according to Reuters.
Named by the justice ministry of Italy as Najeem Osema Almasri Habish and referred to as Osama Njeem in the government records of Libya, the man has already boarded a plane heading to Tripoli, according to ANSA and other Italian news agencies.
The interior ministry source said he was freed under legal technicality, as the police who conducted his arrest did not immediately notify the justice ministry, which was a requirement.
