Ceasefire deal a “serious mistake,” says Smotrich

Israel’s far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich said on January 19th that the ceasefire that has been under way with Hamas in Gaza is a “very serious mistake” and a “surrender to Hamas”, according to The New Arab.
The minister also threatened to withdraw from the coalition government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, should Gaza not be occupied by his country.
In conversation with Army Radio, Smotrich said his country “must occupy Gaza and create a temporary military government because there is no other way to defeat Hamas.”
Smotrich added: “I will overthrow the government if it does not return to fighting in a way that [leads to us] taking over the entire Gaza and governing it.”
