Lebanon should “swiftly” form government – UN Security Council

The UN Security council called on Lebanon’s recently elected leaders on January 16th to “swiftly” establish a government, following the election of Joseph Aoun as president after over two years of the position being unfilled.
A presidential statement which has been drafted by France, comes after Aoun’s nomination of the presiding judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Nawaf Salam, as the new Prime Minister, according to The National.
The Security Council recognised the “continued support of the international community” in forming advantageous circumstances for the country’s recent electoral process and urged for “renewed unity” within all factions to tackle the countries key issues.
