Israel’s Ben-Gvir to leave government if Gaza deal is approved

Israeli National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, expressed his opposition on January 17th to the proposal of the Gaza prisoner exchange and the ceasefire agreement, indicating that ministers from his party would leave the government, should the deal be approved.
Ben-Gvir said in a statement: “If the deal is approved, we will leave the government with a heavy heart,” according to Anadolu Agency.
Ben-Gvir also said: “I love Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and I will ensure he remains in office, but I will leave because the agreement signed is catastrophic.”
Ben-Gvir also condemned the agreement for “weakening” his country’s defence capacities along the Gaza-Egypt border (the Philadelphi Corridor) as well as other strategic areas, stressing it would “undo the successes of the war.”
