The Sudanese army on January 14th has condemned what it refers to as “individual violations” in the country’s El Gezira state in recent days, as rights groups have held the army and its allies responsible for ethnically-targeted attacks on civilians, The New Arab via Reuters reported.

The attacks mostly targeted people from the west of the country, who live in the central state, due to allegations that they have joined forces with the paramilitary rapid support forces, which has been fighting the army in an almost two-year civil war.

This week, the army and allied forces recaptured the state capital of Wad Madani from the Rapid Support Forces, which was a possible turning point for the war.
