Lebanese president begins consultations for picking new PM

Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, has began talks with Lebanon’s 128 MP’s about who to pick as new prime minister for the country, The National via Reuters reported on January 13th.
The new prime minister will face the challenges of ensuring a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel is secured as well as guiding the directing the country through its rebuilding efforts.
Hezbollah and the Amal Movement which is its ally, have indicated that they will back Najib Mikati, who is incumbent.
After the country elected its new president last week, Mikati said he was prepared to serve as prime minister again if asked.
But a coalition of parties and MP’s which are generally against Hezbollah said they would support the president at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Nawaf Salam.
