The search for the release of hostages and a Gaza ceasefire could be coming to fruition after a year of intermittent negotiations, sources said to The National on January 13th, as senior US, Egyptian and Qatari mediators met with Israel and Hamas negotiators in Doha to conclude a deal.

A draft framework of a potential agreement has reportedly been leaked. The draft, which was seen by The National on January 13th, puts forward the idea of a 42-day truce, the release of Hamas’ hostages at different intervals and the partial withdrawal of Israel from Gaza. It also proposes the return home of Palestinians who have been displaced and the delivery of vast levels of humanitarian assistance, such as fuel.
