Syria’s ministry of communications has unblocked dozens of websites in effort to loosen restrictions which were created under Assad’s leadership, The New Arab reported on January 7th.

The changes include faster internet speed to ensure Syrians can access higher quality communications, the new communications minister, Hussein al-Masri told the SANA news agency.

Bans on pre-revolution content have also been lifted, which were blocked during the Assad regime.

“We have cancelled internet speed limits in provinces such as Daraa and Quneitra to improve internet quality and facilitate access to information and electronic services,” al-Masri said.

“We have lifted the block on websites that supported the Syrian revolution to enhance freedom of expression and access to information.” al-Masri added.
