International humanitarian charities including British Red Cross, ShelterBox, and The Agricultural Development Association, have erected tents, creating an encampment to house over 700 displaced Gazans, according to an article published by Middle East Monitor, published on December 16, 2024.

The news follows Israel`s prolonged airstrikes against the Gaza region. These sources of shelter come at a time of extreme need for these families, as Israel have restricted any aid allowed into the coastal enclave since October 2023.

This has included items such as tent poles, food and medication. The United Nations has warned that shelter is especially important in the upcoming cold winter months, with temperatures in Gaza dipping to between 10°C and 20°C  in December, going a couple of degrees lower in January.

However, this solution is far from ideal, with flooding and high tides washing some tents out to sea, dragging refugees’ possessions with it.
