Italy says it would have to arrest Netanyahu following ICC warrant
Italy’s defence minister Guido Crosetto said on November 21st that Italy would be obliged to arrest Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited following the ICC arrest warrant, according to the Arab News via AFP.
When asked, he said if Netanyahu or Gallant “were to come to Italy, we would have to arrest them.” He added that it was not a political decision but that Italy as an ICC member would be bound to act on the court’s warrants.
Foreign minister Antonio Tajani had previously been more restrained, saying: “We support the ICC, while always remembering that the court must play a legal role and not a political role… We will evaluate together with our allies what to do and how to interpret this decision.”
