Jordan rises to 27th on cybersecurity index
Jordan rose to 27th on the new Global Cybersecurity Index, up from 71st four years earlier, the head of its National Cybersecurity Centre, or NCC, said on November 9th as reported by the Arab News.
Bassam Maharmeh, speaking at the Jordan Economic Forum, attributed the rise to a cybersecurity law passed in 2019 and the establishment of the NCC.
Jordan scored 98.6% on the 2024 index, an increase from 71% in 2020, elevating it to the category of “T1 — Role-modeling.”
Mazen Hamoud, president of the forum, said the progress would enhance the appeal of Jordan among investors and boost confidence in the private sector.
A report from 2023 by the IMF said there had been over 20,000 cyberattacks on the global financial sector in the past 20 years, with losses of more than $12 billion.
The NCC monitors data traffic along with offering advanced services like penetration testing ad emergency response. In addition it supports institutions and fosters youth engagement through training camps and competitions, according to the Jordan News Agency.
