At least five people have died and 10 others have been injured in Lebanon after an Israeli strike hit the southern city of Tyre on the 28th October, reports the AFP.

According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the “Israeli enemy strike this morning on a building” in the centre of the coastal city “led to a provisional toll of five dead and 10 wounded”.

They added that “work is ongoing to remove the rubble”.

An AFP video journalist who was at the scene saw a survivor rushed to an ambulance on a stretcher while other rescuers attempted to put out a heavily smouldering fire.

The journalist said a residential apartment block had “collapsed like a pancake”.

An ancient coastal city with a UNESCO World Heritage site, Tyre was subjected to heavy Israeli strikes last week, leaving swathes of the centre in ruins.

The United Nations Security Council is expected to meet on October 28th to discuss Israel’s strikes on Iran, diplomats said on October 27th according to Levantis.me.

Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian foreign minister, called on the UNSC to meet over the strikes.

In a letter to the 15-member council on October 26th he said: “The Israeli regime’s actions constitute a grave threat to international peace and security and further destabilize an already fragile region.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, in alignment with the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and under international law, reserves its inherent right to legal and legitimate response to these criminal attacks at the appropriate time.”
