US says it hasn’t seen evidence of Hezbollah bunker in hospital

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said on October 23rd that he had not seen evidence of a Hezbollah bunker under a hospital in Beirut, according to the Arab News via Reuters.

Israel’s military claim that Hezbollah have hidden hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold in a bunker underneath the Al-Saleh hospital in the Lebanese capital.

“We have not seen evidence of that at this moment. But, you know, we will continue to collaborate with our Israeli counterparts to gain better fidelity on exactly what they are looking at,” Austin told reporters in Rome.

Lebanese lawmaker Fadi Alameh, affiliated with the Shi’ite Amal Movement and director of the hospital mentioned, told Reuters that Israel was lying. He called upon Lebanon’s army to visit the hospital and show it only had operating rooms, patients and a morgue.

Israel’s military chief spokesman said in a televised statement on October 21st that former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah built the bunker, and that it was designed for long stays.
