US draws roadmap to disarm Hezbollah
The United States has drawn a roadmap to end the war in Lebanon, calling for the disarmament of Hezbollah and their withdrawal from the border, as reported by Ashraq Al-Awsat and agencies.
Diplomat Robert Wood told the UNSC on October 17th that “for the diplomatic resolution to be durable, the parties must fully implement Resolution 1701,” which calls for Hezbollah’s withdrawal from the border and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the south of Lebanon. Wood also called for enforcing an arms embargo and “taking steps to help ensure that Iran does not resupply what remains of its terrorist proxy”.
He added that Lebanon’s political leaders should “set aside their differences and assemble a government that responds to the needs of the Lebanese people.”
