War in Lebanon: Over 30,000 refugees fleeing to Syria
The UN claimed that over 30,000 people have fled to Syria in the past 72 hours, according to Asharq Al-Awsat and agencies on September 27th.
Among the 30,000 refugees, about 80% are Syrians and the remaining 20% Lebanese. Children constitute almost half of the total number of people escaping the conflict, while it seems that men are leaving less than women, as declared by the UNHCR representative in Syria Gonzalo Vargas Llosa.
“They are crossing from a country at war to one that has faced a crisis conflict for 13 years,” he stated in an interview, “We will have to see over the next few days how many more do so”.

In fact, a halt to the conflict seems difficult to negotiate, as Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich rejected the proposal for an interim agreement calling for a 21-day ceasefire.
“The campaign in the north should end with a single result: crushing Hezbollah and elimination of its ability to harm the residents of the north,” Smotrich said.
“The enemy must not be given time to recover from the heavy blows it has suffered and reorganize itself to continue the war after 21 days,” “Hezbollah’s surrender or war — this is the only way to bring back the residents and security to the north and the country.”
