Jordan’s King Abdullah appointed Jafar Hassan, a key palace aide, as the new prime minister following the government’s resigned on September 16th, as reported by The Arab Weekly and agencies.

This appointment comes shortly after a parliamentary election where the Islamist opposition made some progress.

Hassan, a Harvard-educated technocrat, will now address the economic challenges exacerbated by the Gaza conflict, including reduced investments and a significant decline in tourism.
