Jordan’s Islamist opposition made substantial gains in the election, initial results showed on September 11, according to The Arab Weekly and agencies.

This is amidst a lagging economy and the ongoing Gaza conflict.

The Islamic Action Front (IAF), the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, secured up to one-fifth of the seats in parliament under a newly reformed electoral law, which, for the first time, reserved 41 seats for political parties.
