Jordan poised to give many seats to Muslim Brotherhood in elections

Jordan may well no longer be a western satellite after elections results there expect to give many seats to Islamists, according to Reuters on September 10th.

Vexed by public anger over the Gaza war, Islamists hope to win enough seats in the election to challenge the country’s pro-Western stance, a result that could shake up the kingdom’s political scene.

The opposition Islamic Action Front (IAF), the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, says its voice is needed in the assembly to help reverse unpopular economic policies, stand up to laws curbing public freedoms and oppose further normalisation with Israel, with whom Jordan has a 1994 peace treaty.
