Syrian soldiers killed in attack by al-Qaeda group
According to Arab Weekly and agencies, twelve Syrian soldiers were killed on September 4th by an al-Qaeda linked group in northwest Syria.
These were suicide attacks by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) special forces targeting regime positions in northern Latakia, near Idlib, the last major rebel stronghold in the northwest.
This is the highest such death toll in the region this year.
