Biden urges Netanyahu to “finalise the deal” in Gaza
US President Joe Biden met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on July 25th, calling on him to finalise a ceasefire deal for the country’s war on Gaza and the release of remaining captives, The New Arab and agencies reported.
“President Biden expressed the need to close the remaining gaps, finalise the deal as soon as possible, bring the hostages home, and reach a durable end to the war in Gaza,” a statement from the White House read. It added that they discussed the region’s “humanitarian crisis” and the need to remove obstacles to the flow of aid.

Prior to the meeting between Biden and Netanyahu, thousands of protestors took to the Capitol on July 24th to protest, chanting “free, free Palestine.” Demonstrations throughout the summer have popped up across the world, advocating for the end to Israel’s war on Gaza. On May 2nd, Biden replied to these demonstrations simply by saying “order must prevail.”
Ceasefire discussions have come to a stalemate. The two entities came to a temporary agreement in May, but Hamas quickly rescinded its compliance when Israel seized control of Rafah’s border crossing overnight. On June 24th, Netanyahu announced that he would only agree to a “partial” agreement and still would continue the war.
