Israeli strike on UNRWA Nuseirat school kills 17 and wounds 80
An Israeli strike on Nuseirat Refugee Camp’s UNRWA-run school in Gaza killed 17 and wounded another 80 on July 14th, The New Arab and agencies reported. This is the fifth attack by Israel on schools in the past eight days.
The Abu Oraiban school — like most of Israel’s recent targets — housed “thousands of displaced people,” said Palestinian Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Basal. The Israeli military clarified that its air force “struck a number of terrorists who were operating in the area of UNRWA’s [Abu Oraiban] school building in Nuseirat.”
Israel has previously launched an attack on the Nuseirat school on June 7th, killing 40. The country’s military had insisted it was housing a “Hamas compound.”

Israeli forces continue to pound Gaza. Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that several districts of Gaza City have succumbed to Israeli artillery, with helicopters flying over the city.
Khan Younis has experienced a similar situation. On July 1st, Israel issued an evacuation order from the city, expelling 25,000 civilians westwards, according to the UN.
The recent uptick in violence has added to the already increasing pressure on ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israeli officials. After months of stalemate negotiations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clarified on June 24th that he would abide by a “partial” ceasefire but would continue the war regardless.
