Syrian soldier killed, three injured in Israeli air strikes

The Syrian army said that one of their soldiers was killed and three others were injured in Israeli air strikes on early July 14th, according to Reuters. The attack comes as part of increased Israeli aggression on Syria since the war on Gaza started in October last year.

In a statement, the army said that the strikes were launched from the Golan Heights, which is internationally considered Syrian territory under Israeli occupation. They targeted “a number of our military sites in the southern region and one of the residential buildings in the Kafar Souseh area in the city of Damascus”, read the statement.

“Our air defense systems confronted the enemy’s missiles despite their density and shot down a considerable number of them,” it added.

The Israeli army confirmed the attacks and said that they were in response to Syria launching two drones at the southern city of Eilat the previous day.

“Overnight, the IDF struck a Syrian military command center and infrastructure sites. Additionally, terror targets used by the Syrian military’s Aerial Defense Unit were struck,” the Israeli army said.

Ever since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has been conducting period air strikes against the Levantine nation, attacking what it describes as Iran-associated targets. Iranian influence has been growing in Syria as Tehran is a ready supporter of President Bashar al-Assad.
