UN says 250,000 Palestinians have fled Khan Younis
The United Nations confirmed that 250,000 Palestinians fled westwards from the Gazan city Khan Younis following an Israeli evacuation order on July 1st, The New Arab and agencies reported.
Gaza’s UN Humanitarian Coordinator Sigrid Kaag said 1.9 million Palestinians have been displaced across the Gaza Strip. Amnesty International also previously noted Israel’s “appalling record” of displacement.
Kaag said she was “deeply concerned” about the recent evacuation orders.

Palestinian news agency WAFA said that Israel has revived its offensive in Khan Younis, proceeding with airstrikes in the city. Rafah has also faced similar violence following Israel’s seizing control of the city’s shared border crossing with Egypt on May 7th.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society described Khan Younis’s Al-Amal Hospital as “overcrowded with injuries” following the evacuation order. Additionally, more patients were transferred from the European Gaza Hospital.
In response, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said “no place is safe in Gaza” — a sentiment repeated throughout the war’s near nine-month duration.
Nearly 38,000 Palestinians have died during Israel’s war on Gaza. On April 21st, Palestinian civil defense teams uncovered a mass grave in Khan Younis containing 190 bodies.
