Recent exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Israel have left two Hezbollah-affiliated individuals dead, amid a week of increased violence between the two parties, according to Arab News and agencies on May 16th.

An Israeli airstrike on a car located in southern Lebanon killed two young men.

One of the men was reportedly a Hezbollah member, according to Hezbollah-affiliated medical rescuers. The second man’s status as combatant or civilian was not revealed.

“Two people were martyred in the raid that targeted a car on the Ramadiya-Qana road,” said Lebanon’s official National News agency.

The strike comes during a week of heightened violence between both parties.

Hezbollah claimed it launched “more than 60 rockets” against a military base near Tiberias in Northern Israel.

The IDF confirmed around 40 launches from the Iran-backed group, with no casualties.

Both Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in a fierce border conflict since October 8th, sparked by Hezbollah in support of its ally Hamas.

Demonstrating the tit-for-tat nature of the conflict and seemingly endless violence, Hezbollah said the launches were in response to an earlier Israeli strike on Baalbek, in eastern Lebanon on May 15th.

“The outskirts of the eastern Lebanon mountain range… was subjected to five enemy raids,” Lebanon’s state media reported, adding that the strikes caused fires and injured one civilian.

A source close to Hezbollah confirmed the attack targeted the group’s military base.

Israel also claimed to have killed top Hezbollah field commander, Hussein Makki, in a separate strike on May 14th.

Makki’s death follows Israel’s elimination of another Hezbollah field commander a month earlier, Ismail Baz, who oversaw the group’s coastal division.

Approximately 413 people on the Lebanese side have been killed.

While these are primarily Hezbollah members, they also include approximately 80 civilian casualties.

Meanwhile on the Israeli side 14 soldiers and ten civilians have died.
