ceasefire proposal

Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal offered by Egyptian and Qatari mediators over the seven-month-long Israel-Gaza conflict on May 6th, according to Reuters.

Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya detailed the accepted ceasefire proposal in an interview with Al Jazeera Arabic.

The three-staged truce calls for a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Netzarim corridor and an exchange of captives in Gaza for Palestinians in Israeli jails.

While Israel’s administration has not yet officially commented on the development, an unnamed official told Reuters that their country could not accepts the “softened” version of Egypt’s proposed deal.

“This would appear to be a ruse intended to make Israel look like the side refusing a deal,” said the official.
