France denies Russia’s claims about peace talk

France denied Russia’s claims regarding a peace talk on April 3rd, according to Arab News and agencies.

According to Moscow, the alleged call was initiated by Paris to discuss the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “Readiness for dialogue on Ukraine was noted. The starting points could be based on the Istanbul peace initiative,” stated the Russian defense ministry.

However, France played down the allegation, claiming that “France neither accepted nor proposed anything of the sort”  while reiterating its support for Ukraine.

“France will continue to support Ukraine as long and as intensely as necessary in its fight for freedom and sovereignty, in order to bring peace and security to the European continent”, he stated.

Ever since the beginning of the conflict in February 2022, Russia’s relationship with the rest of Europe has been strained. Nevertheless, following the recent attack on a concert hall in the Russian capital, several countries, including France, have expressed their support for Moscow.

French minister Lecornu asserted that France is ready to fight “terrorism” and is prepared for “increased exchanges with the aim of fighting this threat as effectively as possible”.
