Top EU diplomat outlines post-war plan for Gaza
Josep Borell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, outlined a plan on November 13 highlighting how Gaza could and should be run following the war between Israel and the Palestinian enclave, reports Reuters.
Gaza has been in the hands of Palestinian militant organisation Hamas since 2007 as they took over from Palestinian nationalist party Fatah following a civil war.
Borell highlighted the chaos that has been caused by the lengthy conflict and said that the international community had not done enough to establish peace in the region as well as calling for a two-state solution.
The EU foreign policy chief will travel to Israel, Palestine and neighbouring countries soon where he will hope to be a voice for peace in a region that is in turmoil.

Following a meeting with EU foreign ministers, Borell spoke to reporters stressing his opposition to, “any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, to a permanent re-occupation by the Israeli military or any change to Gaza’s size and to a return of Hamas.”.
Whilst the West Bank is overshadowed by the bloodshed in Gaza, it has seen its fair share of attacks by Israeli Forces. The EU diplomat recently demanded an immediate end to Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
Since October 7 122 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, a territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
EU Council President Charles Michel warned Israel on November 9 that they could face isolation from the global community due to its mistreatment of Palestinians and its breaches of international law more generally.
Michel said, “We all advise Israel to consider the provisions of international law while defending itself… Israel does not care about isolation from the international community at a certain stage. Therefore, it is important for Israel to handle these rules with caution.”.
